The word "transaction" always reminds me of a trip to the bank. I give them my money and in return they give me a piece of paper proving that I gave it to them.
It also reminds me of the times my husband and I have purchased homes over the years. We go to a lawyer's office and sign somewhere near a million papers and we leave with keys to our brand-new-to-us residence. We give something and we get something. That is how a transaction works, right?
When Jesus died on the cross, it was meant to be WAY more that just a transaction. It wasn't just Him giving something so we could get something. No ma'am. It was supposed to be the beginning of a two-way continuing relationship! A restoration of what had been lost and contaminated! A closeness like none other!
I think it breaks God's heart when we look at His offering to us as simply a transaction that gets us what we need. True, we give Him our heart and we get His fullness in return, but it goes so much deeper and wider than that.
When we left those lawyer's offices with our new set of keys, we never looked back or dealt with them again. When I leave the bank every Friday, I don't give them another thought until the next time I go through those glass doors to give them another deposit so I can leave with my little piece of paper..
It is different with Jesus. At least it's supposed to be.
We have been given a wonderful gift in exchange for our faith and obedience. We have been given the presence of God moment by moment every day of our lives. Don't go around dangling your keys to the Kingdom and never going in to visit the One Who presented them to you in the first place. Spend some one on one time with Him today and every day you wake up breathing. Build your relationship with Him deeper and deeper. The more you fellowship with Him, the more you will find you just cannot live out of relationship with Him. You will begin to crave Him as much as He craves time with you.
It's the trip of a lifetime!! Unlock that door to His presence and you WILL leave with way more that a receipt proving that you have been there. You will be a changed person with a full heart and a set of keys you wouldn't part with for anything!
Love and Blessing,
